"the Villa Fontana was a legendary ballroom style venue.The place hosted many different kinds of events. It sticks out in my mind as the place that let metal and Punk in south texas, begin to merge and combine, and "crossover". the shows that happened there in the 80s especially, West coast bands BLACK FLAG, THE MEAT PUPPETS, Austin punks THE OFFENDERS and THE BIG BOYS along with HEAVY METAL like SLAYER, (The San Antonio band as well as the LA band using the same name at the time), the Austin metal bands MILITIA,and WATCHTOWER, Houston's HELSTAR and more SA local legends like SYRUS,and ROULETTE.
There is not enough information on the ghosted venue, but, it is now a parking lot for the "Hemisfair" downtown in San Antonio. If you are ever down there, and you are a loud music fan, and like punk/metal...it is a must to visit and try to find where it once stood, at least for a minute to reflect where SLAYER played for a $5 ticket.

In 1984, there were two bands called Slayer, one from Los Angeles, and one from San Antonio. This is important lore!

Nov. 29, 1984 at the Villa Fontana, San Antonio Tx.
The local heavy metal concert promoters decided it would be awesome to have Slayer, open for Slayer, and celebrate heavy metal in a very special way. Contrary to belief, it was not a battle for the name. The SA SLAYER band already had other plans and other projects, and were amicable to the name use by the California band.
